Newsletters: Your Most Valuable Sales and Marketing Asset
Posted on April 25, 2023
The digital climate today may seem steady, but Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok are all in their own kind of turmoil. While the average social media user may not detect any disturbance on the surface, marketing professionals must consider every possible outcome and what it could mean for marketing strategies.
With our own client partners invested in these channels, we need to be able to make recommendations that consider all vantage points when it comes to marketing online. This got us thinking about all of the strategies we use to tell stories and what brands can do to ensure they are immune to the ebbs and flows of social media channels they cannot control.
There are a variety of methods marketers use in their communications and marketing toolbox, but none are as effective or as important as a strong and engaged mailing list. Mailing lists are the number one channel for direct communication with your audience. They are your target demographics who are more likely to listen, buy and take action. They are immune to social media drama, reach people who aren’t on social media, cost-effective, deliver instant conversion, use personalized messaging and provide insights that are invaluable to your brand.
In a world where we can’t rely on social media to deliver our messages, the newsletter has become increasingly important for brands. Today we are sharing our recommendations on how to build a mailing list – your most valuable sales and marketing asset!
Create great content
The single most important way to succeed at a mailing list is to create great content that resonates with your audience. You can do this by considering the reasons they would want to hear from you and use this as an opportunity to educate, inform and connect with them. Create a compelling call to action
Your website or blog should have a clear and visible call-to-action to encourage visitors to subscribe to your mailing list. This could be in the form of a pop-up, a slide-in box, a subscription form on the sidebar, or a dedicated landing page.
Offer an incentive
Everyone loves a good freebie. Whether it is a digital file, a discount, or access to exclusive content, a little encouragement goes a long way. Offering an incentive is a great way to strengthen your mailing list by giving interested visitors a little nudge to make the commitment.
Cross promote
Promote your mailing list on your social media channels and through your other marketing initiatives. Including a call-to-action in your posts, using paid advertising, and running a contest or giveaway that requires people to subscribe are all excellent ways to grow a mailing list.
Collaborate with other businesses
Partner with non-competitive organizations and brands to cross-promote each other’s mailing lists. This can help reach a wider audience and increase your subscriber base with a previously untapped market.
Show up, in person
A good newsletter has a story to tell and often showcases real experiences and people that make up your brand. Next time you have an audience, encourage people to follow and make sure to remind them what’s in it for them!
Any effort put in towards building an engaged mailing list is worth its weight in gold. Mailing lists have become a “nice to have” tool to an essential asset when it comes to communicating with your audience, and in a world of uncertainty, a mailing list gives brands the power to control the complete message and have it neatly packaged and delivered to your customer’s inbox. A privileged place to be for brands, so remember to make it worth their while.
